For today's mixed-ability challenge, the title is Twisted Black Magic, and the technique is the Joseph Coat system of coloring card stock, embossing an image with clear, applying solid black ink over it all, and rubbing away the black on the embossed areas to show the color underneath. Well. Mine didn't turn out exactly like that. Following a tutorial I saw on Pinterest I used glossy card stock, and when I rubbed the black, it came off the cs as well as the embossed areas. But, I thought it was kind of interesting anyway, so I ran with it! I added twine through a large red button, glued a book page to cs and then die cut a bird from it and edged in vintage photo ink, edged the vanilla cs as well, and mounted both the top mat and the bird on dimensionals. I may have to try doing the technique wrong again and see what other bgs develop! TFL!

LOL, the SCS tutorial also calls for glossy card, and I've always had the same problem that you mention. So as soon as I saw Ky had used regular, I tried that (plus I have infinite supplies of regular and limited glossy!). But - my fails have never even been card-worthy while your try is beautifully atmospheric. It would look great with a fairy on it - but being a bird person I love your scripty bird. And the button framing is so cool, I'd totally forgotten about using them like that!

So pretty Kandie! It is kind of ethereal and mysterious looking. Such pretty colors in your background and what a fun technique with your button and twine.
Gorgeous... sucks I'm missing out on all these challenges because doing it would be me learning new techniques. And since VSN challenge that had me loving learning need things and ways and to step out of my comfort zone and think and create outside the box like the tea bags!! Haha now it's your turn!!

It might not have turned out as you first imagined, but I think you achieved a wonderful mysterious, exotic feeling to your card, Kandie. it is lovely. (I did mine on reg white CS...maybe that's the difference...the matte surface would "grab" the black ink.)

What a great fail! It's not a failure, though. I love that more color shows through - feels almost like northern lights to me. Love the twine frame, too - such a smart use of the button. Thanks so much for playing my challenge!
