Made as a Design Team card for Try Stampin' -Or Not- On Tuesday sketch challenge #325: http://trystampinontuesday.blogspot.com/ with an optional theme of "summer splendor".
When I think of summer, I think of beautiful hummingbirds returning to my feeder, so I pulled out my 2005 retired Stampin' Up! set called "Drawing on Nature" that has a lovely framed hummingbird. I colored this with Copic markers (I think I used 15!!!).
With the centerpiece completed, I then chose the colors for the card panels so that they picked up on the colors I had used when coloring the hummingbird.
The card base is SU's Whisper White Thick Cardstock. I used a 4"x5-1/4" panel of Calypso Coral for the background, then chose scrap pieces of Island Indigo and Perfect Plum for the sketch's required frame around the central piece. The green banner was cut from Wild Wasabi (about 3/4" wide, with a tail snipped with scissors).
All pieces, except the hummingbird panel, were glued down with Tombow glue. The hummingbird was lifted off the flat background using Adhesive Foam Strips to give the card some depth. I decided not to add a sentiment so that I could use the card for several different occassions - to cheer someone up, wish them better health, or a happy birthday. Depending on what I need I MAY add a sentiment at the time I use it. But I think it stands alone quite nicely without a greeting stamped on the front!
This card was super easy (discounting the Copic coloring), so I'd give it a difficulty rating of "1". I think the simplicity of the layout really makes the hummingbird panel stand out!
