Made as a Design Team card for Try Stampin' -Or Not- On Tuesday Sketch Challenge #317: http://trystampinontuesday.blogspot.com/ Also managed to include the optional theme "ray of sunshine"!
Started by using the sunburst technique featured in SplitcoastStampers tutorial at: Forums at Splitcoaststampers
Wanted a blue sky, so the Soft Sky cardstock became my card base. Used various shades of yellow Designer Series Paper from Stampin' Up!'s Subtles Print Sampler paper pack (retired), and cut 4 strips measuring 1-1/2"x6". Then cut each strip diagonally across the long dimension of the paper to create 8 triangles. Glued these triangles down to form "sun rays" radiating from the upper left of the card (per challenge sketch). To hide the tips, I punched a 2" circle out and glued it down so it overlapped the card edges for trimming later.
The featured elements on the card are all made from the new Up & Away Thinlits Dies from SU. I wanted a colorful balloon, so used the included "band" dies to cut the colors (Calypso Coral, Groovy Guava, Daffodil Delight, and Pistachio Pudding) that were glued behind the balloon frame and basket.
The clouds were also die cut using the same Thinlits set. I used Soft Sky ink to stamp the shadows on the smaller clouds, and attached then using glue, Mini Glue Dots, and pieces of Adhesive Foam Strips to position them at different "levels" in the sky. The sentiment is from the Petite Pairs stamp set, and was stamped with Bermuda Bay ink before being cut out with the larger die.
The project itself isn't difficult, but required a lot of "fussing" to get the rays positioned, the color bands added to the balloon, and the sentiment exactly positioned. Based on that, I rated this card as a "4". Not hard, just requiring a lot of attention to detail, and time (about half an hour).
