I've tried three times and just not doing so well! This was the best of three! Hope its OK, and will try again. It needs more black line definition, but every time I add more, it either gets too dark or blends in to the background.

Looks fine to me. In fact it's kind of interesting. Looks as if it got 2 eyes a nose and where the HB is looks as if the mouth is saying happy birthday. Maybe my own imagination but it's even looks as if it got brows lol possible even another pair of eyes if I keep looking .

Layering is what will give you that look - let it dry and then start again with washes in different areas. The dark veining can be done with a Zig marker if you have those...? I found the liner brushes that I have linked on my blog worked best for veining.
