I liked the "clean and simple" look of the first challenge, and thought I might give it a modern twist using my Stampin' Up stars stamps and cutting dies.
The stars were created by first inking the middle-sized star in the set using Versamark, then over-inking with Marina Mist ink before stamping on Whisper White Thick Cardstock (so the stars wouldn't warp when I heat embossed them). I made two stars in this manner, then heat embossed them both. I used the two smallest star dies to cut a star centered on each embossed image. The center star was punched out of Marina Mist cardstock with a tiny star punch of unknown brand. I'll have to figure out how to use the rest of the embossed stars with their middles cut out for another card - waste not, want not!
Before assembly I added rhinestones to the center of each of the five points on my largest embossed star, and then a single rhinestone to the tiny blue star. Then the 3D star sandwich was assembled using foam adhesive dots.
The card base is Marina Mist with the holiday designer paper matted with Whisper White. The narrow vertical panel of Marina Mist was matted with white, then glued to the designer paper before the 3D star was mounted with adhesive foam strips to the card front.
Finally, the holiday sentiment from the Wonderful Wreath stamp set was heat embossed with silver embossing powder and then mounted over the vertical panel and designer paper.
I like the look of the original 52CCT sketch with current stamps, dies and paper. It shows that good sketch concepts never go out of style!

This is fabulous! I love the layers, the super papers and the little star. Beautiful sentiment too. Great take on the sketch. Thanks so much for playing along with 52CCT this week! Deborah, DT.

Thanks to both Deborah's for you kind words. I had meant for this to be a DT card contender but forgot to add the "DT" to my name when I submitted it. I already had 3 cards entered, so guess it's not the end of the world :-)
