Linda asked us to do a card based our something in our neighborhood. In my area of Wisconsin we have the Kettle Moraine rolling hills and beautiful evergreens and lots of other beautiful full trees.
And of course on one of the largest hill tops in the area sets the Basilica of the National Shrine of Mary at Holy Hill, or the shorten version that we call it around here "Holy Hill". The road up to the church is also called Holy Hill road. Tradition says that the hill was first discovered in 1673 by Father Marquette with Joliet.
There is an upper and lower church within the large structure and it is home to the Jesuit priests.
The church holds special meaning for me as my spouse and I were married in the upper church 38 years ago. We can also see the church by looking out our upstairs windows and may sometimes here it's bells ringing when the area is quiet!
My card is a simple free handed drawing of the large church and I used a combination of sponged inks and chalk to fill in the large amount of beautiful foliage that surrounds the 400 acres of the shrine. TFL!!

I loved reading your post...so very interesting and how wonderful you can look out a window and see this beautiful place where you married. What a grand job you did free handing the drawing of the church and the chalking to do all the trees and grounds is outstanding. I really love this.

Wow, your creativity was cranked up over the top today. What a beautiful card, Ann. I enjoyed reading about the Holy Hill and your marriage there. I don't think I know anyone that's ever been able to see the place of their marriage from their windows! Lovely hand drawing and coloring, too. I'm elated your Catholic: The world needs more Catholics !!!

Ann, very happy to see you had time to play in the challenge. I'm amazed at your fantastic hand sketched card of your beautiful corner of the world. It is a lovely area with the rolling hills and beautiful trees. Our family visited the church many years ago. The Jesuits sure were a big part of our state's history. Thanks for sharing your story. This is a small work of art and I hope you keep it and frame it.
Wonderful backstory. I bet that structure is just stunning-I love buildings like that. How wonderful you got to get married there and have it as part of daily vista!
