WooHoo it was my turn to host this months Tickle a Teapotter challenge and we are heading back to Whykickamoocow. Our challenge is to bring a card with snow!! No-one in Whykickamoocow has ever seen snow!!
Christmas in Australia is usually very hot. 100F in the shade is not uncommon, but that doesn't stop us from having a traditional hot baked Christmas lunch, complete with plumb pudding and brandy custard. All of this is followed by a game of backyard cricket, then a nana nap, then more food!
When I was in my late 20's I spent a year living in Austria and I got to celebrate a White Christmas. The Christmas markets were amazing, it was dark by 3pm and little candles were burning everywhere. Every time it would snow, I would wrap myself in a million layers of clothes and stand outside so the snow would fall all over me. I remember standing in the snow in Salzburg, home of Sound of Music. I couldn't help myself and I started to sing (and laugh), I should point out that I sound like a cut cat when I sing.
I stopped when some people came close to me. They looked very serious and I thought they were complaining about my bad singing (I couldn't speak a word of German back then) - turns out they were telling me that "help" was on the way. Long story short, they thought I had wandered off from the near by mental hospital. The police took me to the hospital; thankfully one of the nurses spoke English. Everyone had a huge laugh when I was able to explain that I had never seen snow before and that is why I was standing outside. We all had a brandy and the police drove me home LOL.
OK my card - watercolour paper, distress inks and reinkers. White Dylusions paint flicked with a brush, white modeling paste for the snow on the ground. Super fine glitter was added to the penguins hats. Their clothes were hand drawn then cut from a mixed media scrap.
Accessories: MISTI, Poppy Stamps tree die (with the frame part cut off),diecut reading glasses (RAK from Sabrina) mixed media scraps, super fine glitter, modeling paste, Dylsusions white paint, liquid pearls

Susie, your imagination and creativity take me to places I have never been! Hand drawn are the key words here. What a charming card and how adorable those penguins are, my favorite animal since I LIVE in wool for six months of the year! Love the jeans features on these guys. AND you won't fool me! I had the luxury of just once, hearing that incredibly beautiful voice of yours!

Susie, your penguins are adorable! Love the vest and jeans. I could never "hand draw" those little outfits... such talent you have.
And what a hoot your story of your first snow in Salzburg! I imagine it wasn't so funny back then. You were probably scared out of your wits until they found someone who spoke English! But your story-telling had me chuckling!.... What a difference the passage of time can make

Well first I have to tell you, sister from anudder mudder, I spent almost a year in Germany in my 20's...This is almost spooky...we could have met, I did go through Austria on my way from France to Germany (via, Switzerland and Austria). OMGosh, what do you think of that?
Ok, about your card! It is so adorable with those cute penguin and dressed up to boot. Love your little guy with the vest that doesn't quite fit anymore...I know how he feels!
Also love the glasses...
Susie, I LOVE your story and I know you can't sing any worse than me, but that never stopped me either!! Singing and whistling is my happy coming out!!

On, Susie - I was almost done checking out the gallery (need another 'lay down'; only 4 hrs. sleep) when I saw your card. I do so love your stories! Such a dream to be in Salzburg, but not carted off to a mental hospital!
Love your card - and your title! So much talent. So glad you are my friend!

Oh, my gosh, Susie, you REALLY need to write a book! I love the tales you reveal in your descriptions almost as much as I love your cards!
This one is fabulous, as always! The background is gorgeous, and the penguin's wardrobes are just awesome! Love this!

I agree with Jody...you need to write a book, and you could be the illustrator too! This card is just the cutest...you made the snow scene perfect. The little guys are so cute dressed with your creations. Love, love this. Tfs
My family always teases me...I'm pretty much singing all the time. My husband jokes that it is not a requirement for me to know all the words, and he's correct! I can actually hold a tune, it's those dang words that elude me sometimes...but that's no reason to stop singing as far as I'm concerned!
Too funny...they actually took you to the hospital???!!!!
Very sweet penguins...my pants are shrinking too...

EVERY card that you create, Susie, is a feast for the eyes. Not only is this adorable...it is BEAUTIFUL as well. Your attention to every little detail leaves me in awe. I would love to be a fly on the wall of your studio(every artist has a STUDIO....and YOU are an artist) and watch you create.
