Since I was cutting out Papertrey ice skates, I decided to recreate my wonderful memoires of skating.
When I was about 12, I discovered a mile long and .5 mile wide frozen over pond. Once I mastered the basic skills of skating, I skated on Thurs and Friday evenings after school and all day Saturday and Sunday until I was 17 and decided it was time to get a job.
As a child, I lived to skate. I would skate in groups, alone or with boys who would ask to skate with me to skate with them.

Ms. Anne, here you go with another beautiful card. Sounds like you made this from your heart. Sounds like you mastered the art of skating. Our children all knew how to skate too, we would skate on a pond on the farm, it was surrounded by woods, and really was protected from wind and the cold. The only problem, they would have to shovel the snow off every time it snowed. Thanks for bringing back those great memories. Also thanks so very much for your kind comment on my card. Meant the world to me.: Hugs

Oh Anne, such memories you are pulling from my beleaguered mind (and evidently from many other minds as well)! I love your skates! And the blues you used look so Beautiful with everything! That ribbon is a Fantastic choice. And the snow...Perfect!
I've been skating since I was around 3 yrs. old. I remember that then each of my skates had two blades on them probably about two or so inches apart. They were all metal...no shoe or anything, just a flat piece of metal with some sort of side braces that had a woven strap that I think tied them on to my boots. Back then I seem to remember doing more walking on ice with them (and falling down) than skating. We had a park across the street that had a large manmade rink in one area. My Dad would take me there on weekends. As I got older, around 11 or 12 I would go there with a friend or two every night after school till it got dark and then had to go home and eat and do homework. When I was around 17 I had a young man (a few years older than me, which impressed me) come up to me and ask if he could skate with me. I had watched him skate before he came up to me and I thought he was really good at it...he did spins and everything. I could do a few fancy things, but not like him. Eventually he told me that he was with the Ice Capades. I didn't believe him and figured that was just a line...but he was very good. Nope, I didn't end up marrying him...I held out for the best. I often wish I had the guts to put on skates again, but at age 72 I'm sure I would break whatever bones are still working into little bitty bits. Thanks for the memories, Anne. Guess I got a little long-winded here. Sorry.

I grew up in the south and that would not be for me. My bicycle went everywhere permitted. You have created a card that is lovely textured and skillfully embellished. What a beautiful card and story, Anne!

Your creation brought back so many memories and your little story even more. I love your little skates with the pom-poms on the laces! So classic! As a child we skated every chance we got ..on ponds, puddles and even the road. Anything to get outside in the fresh air. I also took figure skating lessons when I got older. Thank you so much for the journey into my childhood.

Love your skate card. What is it about ice skates that evokes such good memories for those of us in the snow and winter areas? I was never that great of a skater, but loved it. Your card is wonderful Anne, the colors are perfect.

Yes, skating has so many memories. We lived about one mile from the outdoor rink and every night that the temps were about 0 degrees, we went from 6 to 9. FUN! Love the memories you card brought to life! tfs
