Today's Technique challenge is to make a one layer card that looked like more than one layer. I had already spotted this beautiful Christmas card in Queen Robin's awesome gallery and decided it would be perfect for playing around with OLC techniques. I'll be putting step by step photos on my blog but here goes: started be punching out the middle of a large sticky note for my mask. I lifted it up to stamp my two pine cones first. I cut masks and layered over the pine cones then with the rectangle mask in place I sponged with Soft Sky and Smoky Slate. I used a chalkboard marker to dot snow. I inked up my boughs with Artichoke then added more artichoke and Chocolate chip accents with markers. I stamped these with the mask in place. I then cut the outer edges of my mask and laid this in place. I covered over my inner rectangle with another couple of small sticky notes. I then inked up my brayer first with Artichoke then brayered another layer of Garden Green over this. I removed my masks and the used a ruler and the brush end of my marker to define the layers. I also added more snow highlights to the cones and branches. I wanted the pine cones to stand out a little more so I went back with a Chocolate Chip marker and went around their edges. I inked the 2nd word of the sentiment using a marker and stamped it. I cleaned off my stamp and used my stampamajig to line up the first word over it. I crumpled some seam binding and made a bow using a glue dot to put it in place. Congrats to Queen Robin who has a great gallery for inspiration. Glad to be able to honor a queen who adds so much to the site both with her own work and her personal comments on the work of others.
