This card is my take on what a bird in captivity must be thinking as he watches the birds moving freely outside of his enclosure. For the image I used a digital stamp that I created.
CARD (5.5” wide x 4.25” tall)
Front Image: Frizzle the Emu looking out from behind chicken wire
Front Sentiment: “Just Another Damn Day in Paradise”
Inside Sentiment: none
I constructed the card base from purple cardstock and printed the sentiment "Just Another Damn Day in Paradise" on the front. Using watercolor paper and paints I created a background panel by applying several colors with a brayer. I completed the background panel by matting it with navy blue cardstock.
For the focal point of the card I printed Frizzle on bristol smooth paper and colored him using gamsol and Prismacolor pencils. I created Frizzle's background by sponging several inks around him. When I completed Frizzle I stamped the chicken wiring using embossing ink and heat embossed it with silver embossing powder. I matted the image with navy cardstock and affixed it to the card front and background panel so that it is slightly off the card surface to add dimension. As a finishing touch I added a 3D flower that I created from cardstock using several punches and sponged ink on its edges to give it depth.
I created the inside panel from cream cardstock and matted it with navy blue cardstock. To complete the panel I added a trio of punched flowers that I made from cardstock. Again, I sponged ink around their edges to add depth.
I also custom made an envelope from cover stock to compliment the card. I decorated it with Frizzle peeking up from the lower right corner.
