Snow Globe Jar

by Lydia Fiedler

Make a snow globe holiday gift out of a canning jar and a plastic ornament.

Supplies

  • Wide mouth canning jar (Ball jar used here)
  • Plastic two-piece clear Christmas ornament (80 mm)
  • Hot glue gun
  • Small Christmas figurines
  • Cotton balls
  • Pliers
  • Glitter glue (optional)

Step-by-Step

  1. Step 1

Using a hot glue gun, attach figurines to the lid insert of a canning jar. Be sure they fit under the ornament domed lid before gluing.

  2. Step 2

    Separate cotton balls into strands.

  3. Step 3

Using a hot glue gun, attach the cotton around your figurines.

  4. Step 4

Continue until the jar insert is covered.

  5. Step 5

Using pliers, gently snap off the tab on the plastic ornament.

  6. Step 6

Using hot glue, adhere the decorated insert to the jar's lid ring and let cool.

  7. Step 7

Attach the ornament globe to the decorated lid with hot glue.

  8. If desired, add glitter glue around the dome.

  9. Step 8

Fill jar with candy or gifts and put lid on jar.

  10. If you want to make just a mini snowglobe for decor, just glue the ornament dome directly to the insert rather than the lid ring, and cover the bottom using patterned paper and a circle die.

Love the idea. Would it be easier if you put the lid on the jar before gluing the dome, and placing it on a turntable, and just turning the turntable?
