Pocket Card

by Beate Johns

Try this favorite fold for an extra-special card.

Supplies

  • Paper cutter with scoring blade
  • Sticky Strip™
  • Regular tape
  • Corner rounder
  • Stamps
  • Ink
  • Patterned paper (optional)
  • One piece of 4 1/4" x 11" cardstock for the pocket
  • One piece of 3 1/4" x 5" cardstock for the message insert

Step-by-Step

  1. Step 1

    Score the 4 1/4" x 11" piece of cardstock at 5 1/2".

  2. Step 2

Score again at the 1 1/4" mark.

  3. Step 3

Corner round all four corners of the cardstock.

  4. Step 4

Stamp or decorate the 1 1/4" fold over flap.

  5. Step 5

Place Sticky Strip™ inside the pocket's outer edge from the score under the flap to the bottom of the pocket.

  6. Step 6

Remove red liner and adhere the front of the pocket card to the back. The flap will be face out.

  7. Step 7

Decorate the front of the pocket card.

  8. Step 8 (Optional)

Run ribbon around the flap and tie at the front.

  9. Step 9

Adhere flap to card with Sticky Strip™.

  10. Set pocket aside.

  11. Step 10

Decorate the 3 1/4" x 5" message piece. I used a one inch strip of patterened paper.

  12. Step 11

    Round the top two corners.

  13. Step 12

Add accents to the pocket and card if desired. That's all!

Variations

    Horizontal pocket
You will need a 5 1/2" x 8 1/2" piece of cardstock. Score it at 4 1/4" like a regular card. Cut about 1 1/4" off the long way on one side. Your message piece should be 3 3/4" x 5".

    Omit the flap
Instead of scoring 1 1/4" and folding over to make the flap, try cutting off the 1 1/4" piece.

    Try an asymmetrical flap
Score on a diagonal instead to create a funky flap.

Could you help me make the measurement adjustment for a pocket card to fit the 5 1/2 x 5 1/2 medium square envelope?

I was wondering the same thing about the measurements for a pocket card to fit the envelope size 6 x 5 1/2. Thanks

Love it Beate.
To embellish, you can also use SU tag sets with different greetings on them.
You could also reduce the proportions of this card and slide a gift card in the pocket!
Keep creating!

this is an old post. but, did anyone get the measurements for the 5 1/2 x 5 1/2 medium square envelope? Am looking at the "From The Archives, Tutorials You May Have Missed" and the author was Beate Johns

Are you talking about the comment before yours? She wanted to know the measurements for a 5 1/2" square pocket card, not envelope. I saw that comment only yesterday when I added the video to it. That would be easy. Start with a 5 1/2" x 11" piece of cardstock and score at 5 1/2" and 1 1/4".
