Nouveau Retiform

by Lydia Fiedler

Learn a new take on the old retiform technique for a fun, fresh, geometric look.

Supplies

  • Cardstock
  • Geometric stencil (ColorBox Modern Brick Stencil used here)
  • Rollagraph Self-Inking Roller Stamp or other stamps (Rollagraph Say What & Seattle Sky ink cartridge used here)
  • Dye ink (ColorBox Ink Premium Dye Mini inkpads used here)
  • Stencil brushes, blending tool or sponge (Clarity Stencil Brushes used here)
  • Masking paper or sticky notes

Step-by-Step

  1. Step 1

Tape the cardstock to the back side of the stencil to hold it in place.

  2. Step 2

Using masking paper or Post-It notes, mask off a square so that adjacent squares are covered up.

  3. Step 3

Using your stencil brush, blending tool or sponge, apply ink to the cardstock in the open area.

  4. Step 4

Moving to the next open area of the stencil, apply ink in a different color, masking all adjacent open areas of cardstock.

  5. Step 5

Continue masking and inking, until the all open areas have been inked.

  6. Step 6

Keeping the stencil in place, roll an inked Rollagraph wheel across the cardstock, rolling in a single direction (not back and forth) to ensure continuous inking.

  7. Step 7

Continue until the card front is covered.

  8. Step 8

    Remove the stencil.

  9. Step 9

    Finish the card.

Thank you for the revisit. I'll have to DIG to find my wheels (and I will!) Especially appreciate the Misti trick.
