Color Lifting

by Beth Rush

Control your color lifting with a stencil and damp cloth.

Supplies

  • Watercolor paper (Fluid 100 140 lb Cold Press used here)
  • Water based ink or watercolor paints (Stampin’ Up!® Misty Moonlight Classic ink used here)
  • Paintbrush and water (SU Water Painter used here)
  • Decorative mask or stencil (SU Adorning Designs Decorative Masks used here)
  • Washi tape or other low tack tape
  • Other supplies as needed to complete the project (used here: Stampin’ Up! Misty Moonlight Cardstock, Snowflake Wishes Stamp Set, Misty Moonlight and silver Baker’s Twine, Wonderful Snowflake Embellishments)

Step-by-Step

  1. Step 1

Tape down watercolor paper to keep it flat.

  2. Step 2

Add a wash of color in water based ink or watercolor paint and allow to dry.

  3. Step 3

Tape a decorative mask or stencil on top and dab with a slightly wet paper towel, pressing into the watercolor paper to lift the ink.

  4. Step 4

Remove the mask. Embellish the card as desired.

  5. Step 5

    Complete the project.

What a fabulous tutorial, Beth, and a fun technique. I will definitely try this one. I've not used my stencils very often but am inspired to try this technique. Thanks, and thanks for making a beautiful card start to finish. Hugs!

I really like this technique. I don't have a snowflake but I do have a fern stencil that I can imagine being a great background. Thanks for sharing.
