WT164, All Ruffled Up:
I used strips of a handmade paper, ran running stitch along the edge, pulled them up into a circle and glued the ends together. For the stems I used a Rhonna Farrer flourish stamp and the chalkboard technique. The stamens are a punch, and the ladybird trail is a Sakura Stardust pen - I love them on darker colours. I wanted to keep it simple, so for the edges I just used very narrow double-sided tape and glitter. As you can see there are still a few stray specks of glitter!!

I did think of the Armistice day poppies when I was making it, which is probably why I didn't go for black centres to the poppies which would be more realistic. Little frilled bits of quilling would be cool for that, I thought.
As for vets, Ireland is a neutral country so although I have army friends, overseas service is always just on peace-keeping missions with very very low casualties. So the last major war many Irish served in is WW2.
Thanks for all the comments. I thought it was such a simple card, I'm amazed how it's gone down .
