I die cut a flower and used the negative space as a stencil to lightly make a background. Colored the die cut and a hummer and added to card. The hummingbird is popped up.

Clever use of the negative as stencil, it was so subtle I didn't pick it up at first glance until I read your description, and then it was an "oh wow!" reaction!
