Polly challenged us to do something Asian inspired this week, as the cards we're making will be going to Vickie, who loves things oriental. I bought this Japanese paper doll kit about 4 years ago, then promptly forgot about it (blaming it on senior moments!). It languished in a craft box all these years, but thanks to Polly's challenge, I finally remembered that it existed. What I was pleasantly surprised with was that the finished paper doll has her arms outstretched - like it is ready to hug someone... and it reminded me of Debbie's write-up of how we Teapotters give paper hugs to those who need it - how fortuitous! So my card is, literally and figuratively, giving a paper hug to one of our own, Vickie.
The paper doll kit included everything needed - its kimono and obi are pink, so I get extra cookies! I tried to follow the instructions as best as I can, but I probably folded some parts wrong because her obi should not be that wide...it still looks cute, though. It can be detached from the card, so Vickie can use it as a bookmark or an embellishment for another project.
Thank you for jogging my memory and for the challenge, Polly!

Oh, that is just so sweet! There's a paper doll tutorial here, tall and thin, and every time I make it the obi is what gives me the most trouble - that and the crepe paper hair! What a great kit, I'm glad you remembered it. Perfect for the challenge, down to the pink and the open embracing arms.

How fantastic! This gorgeous paper hug will surely warm Vickie's heart .... and I love that she can detach the sweet paper doll and use it as a bookmark! This kit was just made for this occasion!

This is such a marvellous card! I love that origami doll with her outstretched arms. The papers are beautiful. The combination of kit and your own design decisions make a splendid card!

Don't you love it when there's a match between a challenge and something you barely remember you own? This is a wonderful way to do the Asian challenge, and your folding looks great to me.

Vickie will adore this gorgeous hugging Geisha, Gem. And she is detachable too! I love how you backed this with the violet dotted paper which makes her look even more wonderful.....We shall have to ration ourselves with the extra cookies, lol.
