IC799 - Homebnc - thought I spent 10 minutes looking at fun stuff on that board, but it was an hour and 10 minutes! I pinned a bunch of great home ideas - wow. This picture inspired my stenciling although you can't see the arrows very well after my items were added - there are three of them - two at the top and one at the bottom. I had already made the the scrabble tiles and cardboard last night and needed something else so this was just perfect inspiration:
MMJ017 - Corrugated Cardboard Mixed Media - it is about time I made this since this was my idea - LOL! If you haven't ever participated in the MMJ challenges here on SCS - we would love to have you come hang out with us.
Mission Inspiration - a Facebook Challenge by Mike Deakin Art - this was the mid month challenge and the prompt is Repeat - copy, reuse, repeat. I have three TH dolls, I repeated the stencil arrows three times, and I think the corrugated cardboard patterns, the scrabble tiles, and the two lines of border faux sewing work.
**ART*JOURNAL*JOURNEY* - single flower - that is why there is a giant flower on this page - lol.
If you are still with me the story behind this is a series of things that recently happened. My daughter found a free app where you scan in a picture and it brings it to life. She spent all last weekend bringing old pictures to life. She did one of my Mother and I watched that thing and cried for hours. I realized that app can be dangerous.
Then my daughter brought me over an old box that was at my Mom's house (my daughter recently moved in there). It was full of old photos from my Grandmother, my Mom and me. I was in that box for hours as well. I traveled down many memory lanes and another few hours were gone.
Then the words came to me: The Past is a Dangerous Muse. This page started coming to life. The picture here is circa 1965. The boy on the left slammed my finger in a door sometime around the time of this picture. It cut off the tip of my finger. The doctors sewed it back on but it is definitely different than my other fingers. The little girl next to him is my Sister Sara. I lost her a few years ago when her mother-in-law hired someone to kill her. The girl next to her was my best friend Tina - she was one of my favorite friends of all time. I still think of her and wish we could have stayed close. I am sitting next to her.
So interesting what captures our time and inspires us. Many hugz

Oh what a great memory piece with that wonderful photo of days gone by - (was your sister really killed by her MIL??! Yikes!) A great use of mixed media here!

Another masterpiece and cherished piece of art and family history. Thank you for sharing your beautiful talent and your life stories with us. They both serve to motivate and inspire me in many ways beyond card making. I love everything about this, but, for me at least, the most inspiring is that little strip of sentiment: Live in the Moment. We should never forget our past, but we all need to live more in the moment and enjoy what we have right in front of us. Big Hugs. Epic creation.

This is amazing...even without reading your wonderful and heart-rending description your piece tells a story all its own. All of the elements on this play a role in telling the story...wow the photo of you and the others fit in well with the TH photo characters...so unique and interesting. And of course you know how I love your use of corrugated card board. BTW-what's the name of that app??

Amazing how your journal art has sparked so many emotions. You sure did capture the vintage look with your elements. I've seen that app advertised. It did look interesting. Thanks for sharing the story and your artistic page.

Your work always was and continues to be exceptional, Nancy. What a work of art this is. Your creativity, imagination and flare for design are incredible! So glad I came across this wonderful piece of art.
Before reading your write-up, I was intrigued by your title - I love the mix of textures in your work of art: the tiles, the corrugated board, the flower and stitching. I did notice the small strips at the top & bottom ("remember the now" and "live in the moment"), and those led me to read everything. WOW...just WOW. I do hope that making a journal was cathartic for you, and thank you for sharing your vulnerable side. Your work is fantastic!

As always Nancy, your talent is so inspiring. This is done beautifully, and the story that went into its creation is difficult I am sure. I somehow think creating this beauty helps with the healing.

Congrats on another mixed media beauty. What a great inspiration to use the tiles as your starting point and build from there. You have quite a story to tell and it is lovingly coming through in these amazing creations.

Brilliant design from a creative mind! Absolutely beautiful, textures, tiles and photo make an art piece! Love how you use corrugated paper, too.
