I don't think I have ever had more fun using my art journal, thanks Sabrina. These double pages are made of canvas and are precoated with gesso. (Dina Wakely art journal, contains, canvas, burlap, cotton rag watercolour paper and kraft).
I started this on Monday for Sabrina's shaving foam and brusho challenge. I squirted lots of shaving gel on a sheet of al foil (about 6" bigger than the open double pages). I sprinkled on the brusho powder and waited ...and waited....and waited. Nothing happened. You may already have spotted my error - I used shaving gel instead of foam.
Not wanting to waste the gel and brusho's, I blasted the foil with lots of water and then whooosh, the gel activated and grew faster than a baby elephant. I quickly dunked the book in the foam, shut the book and gave a gentle squeeze so all the excess foam would pop out and I used a baby wipe (well about 20), to clean up all the excess.
I also took the opportunity to make lots of backgrounds on A4 cardstock. It would be fair to say I underestimated the quantity of shaving gel required.
Back to the journal, the background was very dark and blotchy, you can see where the brusho's dug in. I couldn't fix this, so instead I added more dark colours using ink sprays and distress inks.
Through out the week, I have cleaned all my foam brushes, paint brushes and flicked tons of left over paint on the pages. Then along came Sabrina's next great challenge, use bleach. Not sure what will happen on the other page yet.
I decided to give Grace a trip to space. I used a paint brush to remove as much colour as possible (see insert), then did her gown with Gellato's, crayons, metallic pens and pencils.
Grace's body was stamped, coloured with pencils, then fussy cut and adhered in place.
Thank you for looking. I hope you have a happy, inky weekend.
