Yay it's Tickle a Teapotter time of the month and Jan aka Precious Kitty has written a beautiful poem and invited us to be inspired by our favourite childhood story.
Whilst Anne of Green Gables and Heidi were my absolute favourites, I always loved The Little Mermaid, the Hans Christian Andersen version, which definitely didn't have the same happy ending as Disney's Little Mermaid.
The background was cut from the A4 sheet I made for Polly's fabulous Mixed Media challenge last week. I covered an A4 sheet of cardstock with crumpled metal roofing tape (scrunch up the tape before removing the protective adhesive backing).
Once the sheet was completely covered, using an eye dropper, I put 3 drops of blue ink on the foil, tilted the sheet and let the ink dribble. I then spread it around a bit with an old brush, then hit it with the heatgun.
I repeated this process with turquoise ink, again heat setting it. Once dry the ink is permanent. I cut off a small rectangle to make last weeks card and another 4.5"square of it for this card. I've got plenty left for a few more cards.
The little Mermaid was printed onto copy paper, coloured with Prismacolour pencils, Zest-it Pencil blend, Copic highlights and a gazillion liquid pearls and Stickles. I used super fine gold thread to embellish her hair. At the time of taking this photo, she is not adhered to the card properly, the liquid pearls are taking ages to dry.
Thank you for looking and I hope you have a happy inky week.

Wow, this is beautiful. I've been basically MIA around SCS, so I didn't see the tutorial for your background, but it is totally stunning, and perfect for your gorgeous mermaid. Her hair and headpiece are just amazing (an overused word, but true here). Love it! And yes, liquid pearls take forever to dry, and I always get impatient, touch them to see if they aren't dry and end up with a fingerprint or indention that messes everything up.

Susie, I am just gobsmacked by this gorgeous creation. I am also chuckling about how you use roofing tape and copy paper and turn out an incredible piece of artwork like this. Really? I do not know how you do it - do you have a magic wand somewhere? Inquiring minds want to know. Giggle. I LOVE your interpretation of this wonderful HCA story- he would be so proud of this gorgeous card you made to represent the story he wrote. This is going straight into my favs! ~Karen.

I just knew that beautiful background would make another appearance with a beautiful mermaid and here it is in all its glory. Book me in for a class in creating this type of background and also book me in for a class on embellishing mermaids with sparkles. Such a special card. Lucky person who gets this special card.

This is just wonderful, Susie. You missed your calling as a children's book illustrator. The bg technique is fabulous...thanks so much for sharing the details. The highlights on the mermaid are perfect and all those liquid pearls drops create such amaz ing texture.
