Dina is offering us a sketch for today's MIX269 MIXed media challenge. So before work I had most of this put together from scraps...
I need to start working on a smaller piece than A2 because at the moment I am liking white space around my panels, and I'm ending up needing to make a few custom envelopes...However, I started off with this piece of faux gilded silk which was stamped with Verve's Great Friend and SU Roses in Winter. It hadn't actually yet been gilded, so I added copper EP this morning, edged it with a black Sharpie and then again in a fine line with a gold leafing pen.
I didn't want to cover up all the background, so my banner layer is just vellum embossed, rubbed lightly with a merlot inkpad, edged with the gold leafing pen and stitched on.
My circle was cut from an acrylic stencil monoprint. It was quite strong, so I toned it down by stencilling some gesso through drywall tape, but then I ended up covering most of it anyway. The swirly scribble was on my desk, I embossed it with some crystal EP. The flowers were also on my desk, still uncoloured; I sponged the centres with pumpkin, the rest with wilted violet, added some white pen edging and detail, and SN clear glitter pen in the centres. The leaf is a burned paper bag leaf, check out the MIX forum for an early challenge with a tutorial. I'd tried various luster rub-ons on it before work, and ended up adding some Stickles when I got home.
I tried a couple of sentiments where Dina has the little sentiment strip - they were OK but didn't do anything for me. So I subbed a branch in for it (cut from embossed watercoloured tissue paper), and added a little bird who was left over from Monday's TLC. He's so heavily sponged with colour and luster rub-on that you can't see much of the marker marbling, though. I gave him a little eye and a Liquid Pearl beak and popped him up on foam. The sun is bright and low, so it was hard to get a good picture but I think this is pretty true to life.

It's a great feeling when you get to use up all your scraps - that you have hung onto because they might come in handy some time. This is a good example of how wonderful they can all look.
