Following on from my matchbox garden last week, I had in mind that I could turn a box into a little case. It needs a bit more refining, but I made this as a sample for Toni's WTUI challenge this week, which you will find HERE. Until our last move I kept my fabric in a case not unlike this one - man, are they heavy compared with modern suitcases. And growing up we had had several trunks for storage which still had their travel labels on them, as my mother had travelled from France to Canada and then Canada to Ireland.
Embossed the matchbox wrapper and distressed slightly with antique linen. Before assembling it, I added the WRMK hardware to hold the strap, which is just a strip of slightly distressed brown card. I'd have loved to add real stitching, but for sure I'd have broken at least one needle trying to maneuver it round the hardware. I added little corners, embossed and sponged, with faux rivets, punched and shaped circles of metallic gold card. Stamped a couple of postmarks which would make do for travel labels, and added a little tag.
This is, of course, a 3D project ;-). With three studs on each of the corners, and three luggage labels on the case.

Love your creative 3D project Sabrina. I totally understand the fear of stitching around hardware. Last week my MIL and I volunteered to sew the marching band uniforms. They had rows of snaps that we had to be extremely careful around stitching and then there were the gems that were under the fabric we were adding. Thank goodness I only broke 1 needle but boy it scared me when it snapped. Super story from the wonderful memory of your mom's suitcase. Nicely put together in your project for Toni's challenge.

Oh, what an amazing suitcase, Sabrina, and I agree with Sallie...we don't see suitcases with the lovely leather/brad corners anymore. Stunning, sweet friend...and so clever! Hugs!
