This is the card I really wanted to make for Polly's MIX237 last week...
Some of you might remember my MIX186 Little White Birdies card, which journalled a visit to my dad and told how his vocabulary was diminishing as his dementia progressed. I last visited the hens with him in March, when he was making good recovery from pneumonia earlier in the year. He fell just before Easter and broke his hip, and never fully recovered from that. Yesterday I visited the hens and not-hens for one last time before his funeral.
I added "Amazing" as the only word (apart from the dictionary page for Polly) to this card as it was one of his last common words. He couldn't speak much towards the end, but I might tell him a story and he'd smile and say "That's amazing." Or he'd look at my knitting as I sat there beside him and say "You're amazing."
Here's the hen run in the hospital garden with all the hens and chicks safely inside, none needing to be chased back inside by me with him holding the fence up and stopping any more escaping...
I used Wonderfully Worn for the foreground, then scribbled in some gelatos and dusted chalk pastels all over it.
The oak leaves were stamped (with masking and more stamping) in Versafine Sepia and coloured with chalk pastels. I stamped the foliage and flowers before adding the picket fence cut from an old book page and painted with gesso. The coop and hens were all stamped on white card, coloured with pencils and fussy cut.
The base is grey card stamped with Timeless Textures.

Oh Sabrina, your card is lovely - all of those chickens and pretty butterflies too. I am so sorry for the loss of your father, my father passed away a number of years ago and it is hard. (((hugs)))

Just beautiful Sabrina. I too have lost my father. Although we didn't have chickens I could almost see you and your father rounding them up. What an amazing gift to be able to put your love and memories not only into a card but also the lovely story you have shared. You have touched us all. Sending much love, Karen
