Made for Thank Goodness It's Friday Challenge #96: http://tgifchallenges.blogspot.com/ which required a card made that was inspired by outgoing Design Team Member Bibiana Cameron.
From browsing Bibiana's gallery, I knew I wanted something floral, but simple. I also love Groovy Guava and Night of Navy together. Several of her cards use a modified Triple Time Stamping technique, so things just seemed to come together.
The entire card was made from stamps in the retired 2006 Stampin' Up! Best Blossoms set.
First I die cut the next to largest oval from Whisper White cardstock, then stamped the greeting in the center with Night of Navy ink. It's important to put the greeting on first so that you can position the flowers without cramping the space you need for the greeting by doing it the other way around.
Because I wanted my leaves to appear "behind" the flowers, I first stamped the flower onto a sheet of adhesive mask for the blossom, then cut it out with paper snips. I then temporarily attached my stamped oval to my white panel. I stamped the two flowers on top of this layer using Groovy Guava ink so that part of the flower was on the white panel, and the other part on the oval. Next, I placed the sticky mask over each flower and stamped the Wild Wasabi leaves.
I cut an oval mat from Groovy Guava cardstock using the next size up oval die. This I attached to the back of the sentiment oval using Tombow glue, and then attached this matted oval to the card front, being sure to align the flowers.
Originally, I was going to use Night of Navy ink to stamp a "spatter" pattern on the lower right and upper left corners of the card (similar to Bibiana's), but got too generous with the inking of the stamp and pressing it down too hard on the white panel. The edges of the stamp got stamped onto the paper - making me shout "Oh, no!" (or something similar :-)
I had invested so much time and effort into creating this panel that I just couldn't thrown it away. So, I got out my paper snips and trimmed off the lower section of the white panel so that the Night of Navy would be exposed. I wanted something to connect the exposed blue, so found some enamel dots in my stash that almost perfectly matched the flowers. After debating how best to position the dots, I decided on a "ray" pattern that would "point" to the center of the card and make the blue appear as an intentional background, rather than an accidental feature of the card.
So the card, didn't turn out as I initially envisioned it, but it stands out as more unique than if I had stayed more true to Bibiana's original layout.
