Your challenge today, Shoe Girl, had me down the rabbit hole (no, not Alice), but another master fairy story teller: Hans Christian Andersen! There is a wonderful web site that has the tales printed for reading directly The Princess and the Pea. I confess to getting sidetracked reading several stories again...and hope to bring another one to the gallery this week. Thanks for this imaginative trip!
My princess has been dreaming of turning 40! She's high up there: what with sleeping on 20 mattresses and 20 eider down covers. I cut strips of double sided dp to make my stack. Paper pieced the 40th mattress underneath her. Colored her sleeping gown in Copics.
The Invoke Arts 'Princess Ticket' was inked in the Imperial Purple and embossed with clear powder. The Rhinestones symbolize 4 decades...and it that wasn't enough 40's, I have hidden another set of the number on the card...just like the Queen Mother hid the pea to but the young girl to the test!
Added the Dream Washi tape, a bit of aqua netting and this birthday card is good to go! And I have a card made 3+ weeks in advance of the occasion...that is a dream come true for me!
Thanks to you for stopping by...I appreciate reading what it was that struck you to look!

Oh wow, your friend won't mind turning 40 when she sees this. Susan every inch of this is fabulous and quirky and totally unique. I knew the theme the minute I saw it in the gallery. Ahhhh big happy sigh.

Susan, you did a fabulous job on featuring The Princess and The Pea with your fantastic card! I love your mattresses and the four rhinestones (decades) on the ticket! I can slightly see the number 40 on the right side of the card. I assume that's the hidden number? If so, that's a clever way to represent the pea!!

Oh my what a wonderful card of 40s you have created and you have one hidden too. I like you can get caught up reading stories when I see one and then I go down the rabbit hole with another and another. You sure brought the princess and the pea to life in your card. Thank you for the story and creating such a wonderful card for the challenge.
