This is my sample card for Robin's fun Free for All challenge. I figure mermaids ate permanently cool...and wet! To find out all the details of the Keep Cool challenge, just click click here .
I had a heap of fun making this Bendi Fold card using the great tutorial found here at SCS. I am having trouble adding the link, but just click on Tutorials and type Bendi fold into the search box.
This background is a bit of a mixture. I started by scribbling zig markers onto a sheet of acetate, spritzing with water then pressing cardstock onto the acetate. The colour wasn't quite gutsy enough so I used the smack & squirt technique (smack distress ink pad onto al foil, squirt on water) and smooched the cardstock around in the inky puddle.
Before assembling the bendi fold pieces I scrubbed a bit more distress ink onto the front panel, by making the front panels darker, it creates an illusion that light is coming from the top of the rear panel. I did a bit of stenciling and stamping, the seaweedy looking stamps are a terrific acrylic stamp by Kaisercraft, the fishnet is Prima and everyone knows who the little girl is LOL.
Like always I started out trying to give her fair hair...when I stuff that up, it's easier to move onto to auburn colour....on a bad colouring day it would have ended up black!!
My little mermaid, Dory Louise, complete with navel bling, has been coloured with distress inks and inktense pencils. A few liquid pearls were drizzled here and there along with some gold 3D Viva paint.
Growing up we spent hours and hours at the beach. My brothers searched for sunken treasure while I searched for mermaids. On laundry day, mum would let me take my pillowcase to the beach.....I would hop into a pillowcase, somehow tie it around my waist and then put one foot (which was inside the pillowcase) into a single flipper. It was impossible to walk so I would roll myself over and over until I got into the water.
Ahhhh the gold old days when you could look totally ridiculous in public and not have a care in the world. Thank you for looking and I hope you get a chance to join in.

I saw a stamp that said something like..."If your thighs rub together you're just that much closer to becoming a mermaid". LOL Can you imagine how many mermaids there would be in this world if that were true? I know I'd have a tail & flipper by now! This card is fan-flippin-tastic Susie. You do wonderful work. And thanks for the adorable story (freak). LOL ;-p

Oh, Susie, I love your beach story! That must've been quite a sight. I'm also in awe of your background--especially the way you created the light source, along with all the detail and texture. This card truly is a beach treasure.

Your background always intrigue me! This is gorgeous, Susie and sorry for missing it. So fun to see it! Your Bendi fold is fabulous for this and love the wonderful waves you created by using this technique. This is just such a fun card as are all your cards!
