I made this card for Sandy Allnock's #craftchella2016 on her blog. The challenge was to be inspired by music and to stretch your stamp by using a non-musical stamp. (I don't know if this dove is totally a stretch, but it is a Christmas stamp that I masked off the Christmas sentiment.)
This card was inspired by the musical genius Prince. I chose to use the word "Celebrate" to celebrate his life and music, rather than mourn his passing.
I first heat embossed the dove in white then masked it off using Frisket film and liquid Frisket. I stamped the background and used the Timeless Textures stamps in various colors of purple around the edges. My last stamp was the flourish in the corner. Then I sponged around the dove in the two lightest purples.
Next I heat embossed the sentiment using a purple pearl embossing powder. Then I sponged around the edges with some of the darker purples.
I removed the mask and Frisket and went to work on the dove. I used my re-inkers as watercolors and loosely painted inside the dove.
It needed contrast so I went around the dove using Prismacolor pencils. This allowed me to get a thin dark line next to the dove. It took awhile but I kept going back and forth between the Prismacolors near the bird and sponging the outside edge.
When I was satisfied with that I wanted to add the bling. If nothing else, Prince loved being flashy. I added three coats of Wink of Stella over the dove and thinned the dazzling details and painted it over the edges. Lastly I added sequins and rhinestones.
The picture doesn't quite show the contrast or bling (I need to learn to take better pics!) but it's there.
