I'm a retired librarian so my professional instinct is to rebel against cutting a page out of a book! But I did it today for the Ways to Use It challenge - we were challenged to make cards with book pages or print.
I have an old copy of the Country Diary of an Edwardian Lady. It was discarded from the library because it was falling apart. I found a page in the entries for the month of March that refers to various birds' nests - perfect to use with my stamp of bird, nest, and blossom.
I used mixed media cs for the image as the Zig brush markers work really well on it. And it's a fairly heavy cs so works well when popped up on foam tape. I painted it quite pale first as that's the look I like for blossom, but it looked lost against the book page so went over it all more heavily - and now it looks too bright!
I sponged the edges of the piece of the book page with Distress Brushed Corduroy and then splattered some watered down ink over it.
I'm stamping Happy Easter inside it and give it to my best friend's mother who has invited me to Easter brunch. The dates on the book page are so perfect for it! Ironically my BF's mother is also a retired librarian so I'll see how she reacts to a page cut out of a book!

This is so pretty.....love the nest and the page is perfect. Since the book was falling apart, I think you are probably o.k. to tear it out. Hope your bf's mother agrees. Ha

Oh, I am so with you about cutting up a book and I'm not a librarian. So, I printed out a section of a book for my card. How great that you have a damaged book to use. You selected the utmost perfect page for the bird's nest and Easter. Love the image and your coloring. Fabulous card!! You might have to explain the use of a book page to the recipient, but I image she'll love the card. Fabulous job! TFS

Beautiful card Susan. I love the pretty colors on that bird and nest....it just says "spring". I like how you added the splotches to the book page. Sometimes I will just make a copy of a book page or sheet music instead of using the original. I can distress it and use a heavier weight paper that way.

I totally understand not wanting to cut pages out of a book. Thankfully the book I use is one that my old home owners destroyed using it as a door stop so I don't feel so bad using it on my cards. Super stunning page with your bird and the wonderful coloring you added. So detailed. Thank you for joining in on my challenge.
