This is for Cathy's fun WT challenge ~ WT527 Watercolour Backgrounds.
It was great to combine with Frances' challenge to the CCEE Stampers, to mark National Librarians Day by using a book as our inspiration. We belonged to two libraries when I was a child, and I still go to our local one at least every other week. Here I was inspired by the Pierre Probst Caroline books (sadly, in English they are now out of print and cost a small fortune, but they're still available in French). This, obviously, is Caroline At the North Pole. It does also remind me of a chapter in one of the Mary Poppins books; Mary has a compass, and with her the children visit each of the different compass points. Michael, on his own, tries to repeat it, and of course ends up in trouble, rescued by Mary Poppins.
Stamped my images with masking, coloured with Polychromos pencils just to be sure they didn't bleed when I waterercoloured the background. I used Twinkling H2Os for the foreground and Winsor & Newton pan colours for the background (with a few spots of masking fluid for resist). Edged it with white acrcylic, and when that was dry I added some Stickles for a frosty look.
