ItÂ’s that very special time of the week, Teapot Tuesday. Rosalia gave us a fun story this week and she is taking us back in time Â…not that far backÂ…we are going back to our hippie days in the 1960Â’s.
Our cards are going to Kyla from Surprise, Arizona. Kyla has a real battle ahead of her and I hope our cards bring some love, peace and sunshine. Lime green, purple and tie-dye and all things 60Â’s are some of KylaÂ’s favs.
I loved the sixties, I started secondary school in 1967 and went to my first ever school social that year. I saved my pocket money for weeks to buy lime green fishnet stockings – they matched my lime green, purple and orange tie-dyed mini dress. My friends and I spent weeks eating apples so we could make necklaces out of apple seeds complete with hand-made peace symbols. The big night finally arrived, I felt like a genuine hippie girl. I was so excited to be going to my first dance that I didn’t even care that the hairs on my legs were long enough to plait and they were sticking out through the fishnet stockings (my dad was very strict about growing up too quickly – that include shaving the legs, hmmm).
Just before it was time to go, I danced into the lounge room to show off my outfit when suddenly our pet budgie Bluey, swooped down and started franticly pecking at my neck. Blood spurted everywhere, mixed with little blue feathers and my poor mum screaming. After my brothers captured Bluey and it was established I had not severed an artery in my neck, mum cleaned me up and off I went to the dance (minus the apple seed necklace – turns out you were supposed to dry the seeds and then paint them with varnish…..who knew).
Now about the card…a double stair-step complete with 60’s style curtains. I have this great new fence die – it was a bit tall so I lopped a bit off from the bottom. Thanks to a previous die-cuts tickle gift from Jennifer (Mothers Daughter), I HAD to buy this tall leafy die. The hippie girls started out life as a digi image by Paper Shelter.
I fussy cut about 8 of these little hippies before I had 3 that were suitable for Kyla and SCS. If you look carefully the girls are holding their fingers making a peace symbol. I kept chopping one finger off. I donÂ’t know about where you live, but here in Australia it is rather rude to hold up one finger!! I digress, the girlsÂ’ glasses and necklaces are done with liquid pearls and their hair, thongs and nail polish were done with Zig brushes, and so is the peace sign on the fence.
Thanks you for looking, have a groovy week everyone and peace be with you.

I am awestruck at this work of art. I cannot even imagine doing all that fussy cutting! And they have perfect painted toes too. Your cards are amazing. I've made one stairstep and it's probablybthe only one I'll ever make. I admire your patience. WOW!

Oh Wow! Love these hippies! The detail is amazing and I have no clue how you think of these things. They are just adorable. Having grown up in the 60's I absolutely love your story with this!
