This is a tutorial by Dina and I am using the wet-into-wet technique. You dilute your ink with water, color a section (petals here) and let dry somewhat but not completely. Put down more color for darker areas. The wetter, the more blending out. I like to call it feathering and love it watch it do that. For even darker shading, let it be almost dry and add more color. You don't want bleeding. I'm coloring the underneath petals darker.
Dina's tutuorial is very helpful and easy to understand so just follow it and you'll be fine.
I did use VersaMark and embossed my image before watercoloring because the ink I stamped with kept bleeding no matter how much drying.
After coloring my petals, I mixed the the fired brick and mowed green inks together for the stems and leaves. I didn't want them to be too bright green.
Add my sentiment, did some splats, and all done. Fun!!!

Oh, Brenda, this is a stunning card and such wonderful watercoloring. So excited you are on the challenge team for the new weekly watercolor challenge! I've been wanting to work on watercoloring, so that will be easier on my eyes. Thanks for the wonderful comment on my card and the warm welcome back! Have missed everyone on SCS! Hugs and love, sweet friend! xoxo

These poppies are beautifully water colored! The black embossing really makes them stand out from the BG. Those spatters are all this needed for a BG. Glad that is how you did it! I have had a little jar of poppy seeds from my mothers garden for ages. I have decided it's time to plant them and see if anything will grow. If not, then nothing is lost. And if they do grow I will have beautiful flowers to look at.
