Sheri gave us a fun story this week resulting in the Teapotters sending flowers to Betty in Las Vegas. I thought I would go all arty this week and do a mixed media card using the plastic bag and frozen sausage technique. I learnt the plastic bag technique from Janelle (dizzymommie) at the MIX59 challenge, the frozen sausage part was my own invention.
I roughly sketched a little pond with long reeds. I then placed the sketch under the clear plastic bag and applied ink pads to the relevant areas. Next step was to wrap a frozen sausage (a thick chorizo sausage) in cling wrap and rolled it backward and forward over the inks to sort of blend the colours. Everything was going to plan when our doorbell chimed (it is more of a ding dong than a chime), I digress, our 96 year old neighbour was at the door to see if we could take a look at her refrigerator. Long story short, after putting what we could salvage into our fridge and freezer, we took Mrs Shears to the shops and she bought a new fridge.
You are probably wondering what all this has to do with my card, weeeeeell by time we did all this, my sausage had thawed out and it would no longer roll across the cardstock properly. You can see the lower section of the card is quite different to the rest. Not wanting to give up I scrubbed some distress ink at random and finished off with a light spritz of Dylusions ink spray.
The reeds were stamped using Memento ink. The flower was stamped onto white card stock then inked with Tim Holtz inks, fussy cut and popped up with 3D tape. It is hard to see in the photo but I went over a few reeds with super fine glitter.
I am taking Mrs Shears shopping tomorrow to stock up her new fridge and we are going via the craft shop so I can buy myself a new brayerÂ…..no more frozen sausage brayering for me. This card is in the mail, I had heaps of fun making it and I hope our cards will brighten BettyÂ’s week.
Have a wonderful week everyone.
