For the preliminaries for the Summer VSN event, The VSN Book Club, those of us who are hostessing your challenges were given a challenge ourselves. Our Coordinators gave us the challenge to take a favorite book jacket and make a card based on the jacket. My favorite book of all time is Gone With the Wind but since I lack a copy and wasn't impressed with what I saw online, I went to Plan B. When I was principal of a private school, my teachers gave me a signed copy of Alexandra Ripley's sequel to GWTW, Scarlett. The book has no jacket but is boxed in a lovely wild rose box and binding. This is my card based on that book. I used the new technique I learned this week-- Embossing with Watercolor. I embossed the wild rose background stamp on vanilla CS with detail white EP. I then used my stamp pads and a paintbrush to color the image. I burnished pale yellow chalks into the background and then wiped the excess off, sort of like resist. This is the result. The sentiment is stamped in gold and the wild roses are bordered in gold to reflect the gold leaf on the pages and cover.
