Karen is our hostess in the Color Challenge this week, and she has given us some lovely spring-like colors for her palette this week: Mango Melody, Pear Pizzazz and Flirty Flamingo. The dessert option is to use a stitched die cut on your project. Sadly, no dessert for me this week.
I have been watching the videos shared by Vicky in Greece, and have been intrigued by her art journaling. When she posted a about how to get started, I finally took the plunge. There's lots of room for improvement, but I am satisfied with my first art journal page.
It is truly mixed media--I used just about every kind of product I have in my studio! I started with the background, following Vicky's suggestions, and squeezed some ink out of my Altenew brush pens onto wet watercolor paper. The quasi-Mango Melody and Pear Pizzazz colors blended quite nicely. After that layer was dry, I added some stenciling and a few ink splashes. The flower stem and leaves were done with Distress Paint, while the flowers were embossing paste mixed with Flirty Flamingo reinker, both through a Tim Holtz stencil. I stamped some text, leaves, and a border stamp here and there.
I stamped the adorable Bundle Girl in Flirty Flamingo ink to give me placement on the page as well as to stamp the hearts. Then I stamped her again with black ink on X-Press-It Blending card and colored her with Copic Markers. Fussy cut her out and glued her in place. Die cut the letters and created the rest of the sentiment with my label maker. Added a few black sketch lines and lots of white gel pen, glued on some extra hearts, and added today's date. Sponged the edges with Peeled Paint DOX and then a bit of Walnut stain.
This was such fun to make! Can't wait to do it again!

Goodness! Your card is incredible, Barbara. I swear, your creativity floors me every time. The coloring is amazing. There's just so much detail to love. Awesome!
This is so pretty, Barbara! I love how the little girl seems to be blowing little hearts, sending love all over the world (hmmm... or is she trying to catch all the little hearts with her outstretched arms?), she is beautifully colored, and the background is just awesome!

This page turned out so well. Were you at all intimidated to fill up the page with elements. I am so comfortable operating in 4x5 1/4 that I freak out when I have to go bigger. This has everything- light, pattern, and an overall uplifting feel. Keep journaling my friend as you are on a roll.
