I made this card for this week's Alphabet challenge. Ann is our hostess and she has chosen the letter J for this week. I was rather stumped with this one until I watched this video called Carved Wood Technique by Gina K Designs: .
I had to try this technique immediately and was thrilled with the results. The first one I did was in the same brown tones Gina K used on her card, but I love teal tones so thought it would be fun to try a teal-colored one too. This is so much fun to do and I was really pleased I did one in Teal. Gina used a snowman for the image on her cards, but I had this cardinal in my bone pile all ready to go so decided to use that instead for my image. Do you see the word Joy on the cross piece? That is the J in my card- joy.
For this card you use a stencil to emboss with, then you score the card at every 1/2" using a score board. Then run 2-3 different colors of ink down the card panel to create the faux wood appearance. I did both side of this panel, but chose to use the debossed side. The embossed side is really pretty too and gives an entirely different look.
The little snowflakes between the words were die cut, then Zig 2-way glue pen was added on top and StampinUp Dazzling Diamonds poured over the top of the glue. I set the snowflakes aside to dry for about 5 minutes before adhering them to the card front.
Thank you Ann for this week's letter challenge and thank you for looking! ~Karen.
