Truth be told, I am a sentimental vintage gal whose heart is mid century. I walk two roads. But tonight, I simply couldn't resist Amy's IC challenge 'A Cottage in the City'. What glorious choices to be found there!
And it was these gorgeous Adele linens that inspired my dressmaking paper mannequin.
The mannequin came first. I thought it would be fun to create a garment from some recent scraps. The 'Mum' blossoms done in Brushos were first. I saw a tutu in them. A lil' bit of tule in a shimmery green as the underskirt. Don't you think the pretty lace heart with it's flowers makes the perfect bodice? Colored with Copics and Wink of Stella.
That wildly textured Cuttlebug Anna Griffin 'Acanthus' embossing folder auditioned and was awarded the job as my fancy bg.
Tim's Sizzix 'Sewing Edge' was next. I tore into a heavy cardboard flap. It was die cut and made the most wonderful texture and statement for the bottom. I used a Silver Sharpie on the scissors. Raided my grandmothers button box for the 5 buttons along the bottom...aren't the tee tiny baby buttons just wonderful in the same pastel hues of the tutu. I added snippets of trim to the two large buttons to hold in place. The spool is wrapped with the green tule.
And last, but not least is my chalkboard sentiment. Live BIG! The edge of the 'chalkboard' is dipped in super fine gold ep. I've been noticing both Sabrina (Cook22) and Jean (jkanack) using this to add a delicate touch. Thanks creative artists!
And thank you again, Amy...a most inspiring IC. I appreciate your thoughts...can't wait to see what inspired you.
