Lucky girl, Stacy to have a floral delivery...isn't that just the best reason to answer the door? I was glad to visit our IC site today, Burton & Burton and find these Peacock Feathers.
I must admit I've been reflecting upon this word, Meraki, since Wednesday when I met a recently retired coworker at a new coffee house named just that. It is a Greek verb pronounced l may-rah-kee l. Which means to do something with soul, creativity, or love; to put something of yourself in your work. I was thrilled to learn a new word that was so positive. I shared it with a friend of mine (and yours) and she suggested we create something using this Greek to us word. Check back in the gallery today.
My card used the Tin Can Mail Peacock Feather Mirror. I stamped it and embossed it with 3 colors of EP. It was fussy cut and colored with Gelatos also. I used a snippet of seam binding at the handle and some bronze micro mini beads for studs on the bottom. Instead of a mirror, I used a recent photo of me in my studio. The Flavia Alphabet stickers spells out Meraki. I embossed over it lightly in detail clear.
I am a visual artist and must be surrounded by objects that spark my imagination. Some of those things include photos of me when I was 5 and 25. Growing older and seeing myself in photos, I wonder where have those girls gone? In my heart of hearts, I am still in each moment. It's the mirror that plays tricks! And yet, I know the art I create is as fresh and vibrant as the pictures.
If you've stayed with me here, I thank you! Meraki describes all of us, don't you think? Do you have a favorite picture of yourself? What age? Is it our ART that keeps us recalling 5?

Oh Susan, what a great story you have given us all and I love the creative process you have in putting this all together. Yes that mirror does play tricks on us . . .mine says I have morphed into my grandmother when I know deep in my heart I am a young and vibrant 19, just venturing into the world on my own! Girlfriend - I love that you hand wrote the Meraki meaning on your card - I would kill to be able to add hand printing like that ! ! !

Little known secret: Rumor has it that I am related to the ancient King of Greece so may I suggest Meraki might be a nice middle name for you to adopt? It has a beautiful ring to it. Speaking of beautiful, your card and musings are very touching. I'd love to see it in person. I've not been to Meraki. Want a cup?

Thanks for the new word to my vocabulary too. It certainly describes your art style as you always give so much of your self in your creations. They are like little mini art lessons, or lessons of life.

bfnm...you are amazing. this was so fun to do together...let's do this again sometime. i know you've done this with others too, it is so inspiring. Eugene must be an amazing place to have a coffee shop named 'Meraki.' I think words are so powerful and I love learning new ones. Your creation is exquisite, powerful and very one4joy. thank you.
