January is a busy month for birthdays in our family. This one was for our son's 25th. When pressed for ideas for a gift, he had suggested that the Canadian Olympic Hockey team's jersey might be an idea...so that's what he got! (Along with some $ inside so he could actually go get the real thing!)
I printed the logo, numbers, name and red portions of the jersey (stripes & shoulders) on matte photo paper which I cut to fit the 'jersey' that I had cut out of white cardstock. I made a template of sorts for the jersey by printing images I found of the front and back of the jersey (the internet is such an amazing resource). I scored lines to create the appearance of sleeves. "I Believe" has been part of Team Canada's campaign to promote our athletes. I used it as my sentiment on the front and on the inside it continues with "...it's your birthday!"
A note of interest (for Canadians anyway): The maple leaf logo on this year's hockey jerseys is brand spanking new for this Olympics - and quite interesting. It is filled with all kinds of silhouette images and Canadian symbolism. A rule that disallows use of the familiar Hockey Canada logo that has been on Team Canada's jerseys for what seems like forever meant that a new logo was needed for the 2010 Olympics. Go Canada Go!
