Thought I would try my hand at a step card (TLC534) using one of my favorite color combinations. I followed the great directions in our tutorial (link can be found in the challenge directions). Once I had my frame, I cut a smaller white piece of cs to fit inside the front panel and embossed it. For the cake layers, I cut out shapes that I thought would work for the cake and then used a scalloped punch to make the strip of frosting, using the corner rounder on the edges. Die cut each candle twice- once for the main color and once in yellow. Cut off the yellow tops to add for the flames. Die cut the balloons and the "ties" (from Bunting) for the bows on the balloons, and drew the strings with a micropen. Assembled all pieces and then used glossy accents on the flames for some shine. It was easier than I thought it might be! Linking also to:

I always find the side step to be the hardest of the step formats - and I know it's just me because I see so many fabulous cards that really use it as a feature. Like this one , you have a real layer cake there.

Your first step card is a total success! I like steps for scene cards - it's much easier to create depth and division than a flat work space. Your cake and frosting are so creative and I love that your sentiment runs perfectly from end to end.

Well done, hurrah! Ya think Vicki Dutcher would agree? I'm all thumbs with these cards. I'd have glue all over everything and me. (a few years ago I did super glue my fingers together, my husband had to work me loose) The colors are truly sweet together. Thanks Maura for another great entry into our birthday challenge.
