In 1989, Rules of Prey was published. I read it and was immediately hooked. Since then, There have been 17 more "Prey" novels. They never get tired or formulaic. I wait impatiently for each new book.
Author John Sandford is the pseudonym of the Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist John Camp. "I enjoy tightly plotted novels with solid, likable characters; I like a little romance, I like a really BAD bad guy -- but maybe a bad guy who's aware of his own problems -- and I like a big bang at the end, rather than a whimper."
When I want to curl up with a good book, I go to my bookcase and reach for Sandford. Try it! TFL!

Thanks for the referral---can't wait to try it. The ruler with the title "Rules"---I get it. But is that the author or the really BAD bad guy or the hero?

That's John Sandford, I wondered if that would be confusing, Lucas Davenport, the main character, is very good looking, in a rough kinda way :-)
