For this week's Ways to Use it Challenge. Chipboard.
I love this stuff and really don't use it often enough as it usually requires some sort of "attention" - either painting, inking, stamping, embossing - you get the picture.
I've had these really big letters for some time now (They're a little over 6 inches tall) and I've had the intention of doing one for Maggie to hang on her door. Well, this seemed like the perfect opportunity. So, I painted the back and sides/edges of it in white acrylic craft paint. Then, I cut out some DSP in the shape of the "M". Put some Modge Podge on the letter and adhered the DSP to it. The oval name plate is also chipboard and I did the same process with this, except I didn't paint it (as the back is hidden) but I did ink up the sides/edges using Whisper White Craft Ink.
Once the DSP was "dry", I sanded the edges on both pieces. I added the word "Maggie" to the oval name plate using rub-ons and then Modge Podged both pieces. Once that was dry, I then hit both pieces with some Crystal Effects to give the whole work some gloss.
I placed the name plate on an oval piece of Purely Pomegranate that I had paper pierced and inked around the edges. I added some different coloured ribbons to the top with simply knots and added a little piece of silver cord with some fancy beads attached, just to break up the pink a bit.
Now, my plan is to frame this somehow in like a box with glass on the top, like a shadow box I think they call them - but this is where I'm stuck. Can I make one of these or do I buy them from somewhere - any help on this would be great. Or if anyone has any ideas on what I can do with this piece now to allow Maggie to put in on her bedroom door - I'm open to suggetions!!!!!!
Would love to know what you think of the project so far and as always, TFL.
