I designed this page with my parents in mind. May is their anniversary and I always send them red roses to celebrate the occasion. This page is so lovely IRL. I used More Mustard for the background wash and tapered the color out toward the edges. The calendar page looks washed out to white, but it actually has a light More Mustard wash on it as well. I used the damask background stamp from Flourishes on the left side of the page. I first stamped and embossed the pattern. I then masked the rest of the page using Eclipse masking paper. I inked a brayer in Basic Black and applied the black ink several times for a totally black panel. I used an almost dry watercolor paint brush to soften and even the color. I then used a tissue to remove the ink off the gold embossing. The butterfly was painted and cut out on another piece of watercolor paper. I painted the white portions with pearl ex and gum arabic to give the wings an irridescent look. Once everything was dry, I adhered the butterfly's abdomen to the calendar page and folded the wings up for dimension.

The black contrast is perfect for the roses. They are so beautiful! You must have been so careful with each step of this! I'm thinking I like these better than IRL roses...except for the fragrance...these are a lifetime of beautiful!

Your watercoloring of your roses is just so realistic. I also really like the damask edge and your gorgeous 3 dimensional butterfly. TFS each page. They all deserve to be looked at and commented on individually as they are all different works of art! TFS....so much!

So elegant . . . I love the flourishes and butterfly with the roses. Ahhh, those roses. Isn't there a jingle, 'Nobody does it better'? That fits you and flowers . . . nobody does them better.
