My oldest son turns 19 next week and it will be the 1st time he will celebrate his birthday away from us...BOOHOO! if only he had chosen the local university...but noooo, he had to feel called to that wonderful, private, Christian liberal arts...oh get a grip, Susan...sorry you guys!!!
Todays' Try a New Technique is right down my alley...I have way more DP than solid...anyway, I headed straight for the resources and Beates' Tutorial on Z fold cards (thanks). I knew Purple Onion's shouting man would be just the thing for this card, I stamped him on cream cs with Tim Holtz distress faded jeans and embossed in clear. I cut the mouth out and added a unknown pink dp which I used Crafty Secrets Sexy Little Number set for the saying and the #19. Both are inked in Adirondack pitch black with the # being embossed also. All the papers with the exception of the black scalloped are by Tim Holtz awesome vintage double sided papers. I used 4 different ones. It was simple to put together. The cars and trucks on top of a road map, I tore and inked the edge in ChalkBox tangerine. The time paper is the base of the zfold. It is black on the reverse. The tiny license plate is cut from a sheet by the same name...think it has all 50 states used mutiple times. I popped my special mouthy man to give him more presence. I slipped vintage German blue foil scrap just behind the black scallop rectangle to give it a sparkle.
Thanks so much for feeling this transition with me...my son tells me, "I always feel so loved, Mom, when I go to my mailbox and there's an envelope from you"! That's reason enough to loose sleep for me, how about you?

Fantastic card! Your son will love it. Love the story behind the card. ( I understand...both of my sons do not live near me) That shouting man is too cute! Wonderful take on the challenge. TFS!

Oh Susan, what a wonderful card. I mean it when I say your cards tell a whole story by themselves, sheesh, and I know how you feel coz both of my kids moved to California... they could not be any farther away and still be in this country, well maybe Hawaii, but anyway back to your card.. I love the old yellow CA license plate, the vintage cars running up the side of the card, your lovely nestied piece, the old invoice, it is marvelous! And how nice you have such a good relationship with DH, he has one special Mom!

Your son will really feel the love with this fabulous card!!! What a awesome shouting man stamp...couldn't be any more perfect, tfs!! Love the little cars along the side and how you incorporated his age into the design!! You are one terrific mom and stamper. I also feel you pain about children growing up and leaving home....but alas...never fear!! Children are like homing pigeons...they always find their way back home!!
