There has been a lot of talk on one of the stamp groups I belong to about these plastic snap together ribbon holders that Super Target sells. I've heard that the regular Target stores sometimes do and sometimes do NOT have these. Well, being the stamping monster that I've become LOL, I decided to make one out of a shoe box. This isn't your typical shoe box. The lid is connected to the actual box and doesn't detatch from it.
Anyways, on the back side of the box is where I will be punching some grommet holes as soon as dh gets me some more grommets from home depot. Then I'll feed the ribbon out through the gromment holes. I will be able to feed more than one ribbon out each hole and the inside of the box is large enough that I can put quite a few spools in it! I'm looking forward to getting this completed (I already put my ribbon in it LOL), so I can have a prettier storage system for them.
The technique I did for the background is what's called faux leather. Go to the Resources link and view the AWESOME tutorial Beate did for this technique (and many others too - Thanks Beate!!)
Let me tell you, this is a nice technique for "smaller" type of projects like cards or scrapbook pages LOL but it wasn't the smartest technique for me to #1 try for the first time and #2 try for the first time on something of this magnitude and size LOL I think I spent an hour and a half ripping pieces of masking tape to cover this entire box. The payoff was worth the effort though, don't get me wrong about that! I just wished I would have taken on something a little less intense doing a technique for the first time hehehehe
YES, I'll stamp just about ANYTHING LOL Oh, I also painted the inside cardboard with acrylic green paint. There was no way I was going to leave the inside unfinished after beautifying the outside of the shoe box hehe

All your hard work paid off. This looks great!!! TFS. I did pick up 2 of the Target ribbon boxes while on a trip and thought I'd get a couple more after I returned home and discovered that our Target doesn't have them. I asked the manager to order some, but now I hear from people on the Forum that they are on clearance. I think they were Christmas items.
