Nothing like making your DH's 'surprise' BD card from our home fellowship group. So he thinks this is for a male co-worker's BD from the team (I hope he doesn't check my SCS postings!!!).
First of all credit is due to StamperSharon. My first card (on the left) is CASED from one of hers. I love the colors and layout for a masculine card; DH thought the flower 'too girly' for a guy's card.
The card on the right is my version of StamperSharon's 'masculinized'. The cake is inverted (DH's suggestion), the technique used on it was the 'faux shaving cream' from convention 2006. The candles were stamped in versamark then 'detail embossed' in gold and burgundy EP (but the burgundy doesn't 'show' due to the darkness of the navy CS). To 'detail emboss': versamark stamp; use a teeny-tiny scoop (or a straw cut at an angle as a 'scoop') to pick up a TINY amount of EP and carefully 'tap' it off the scoop over the area desired... tap CS ever to gently to cause the EP to "dance" around and adhere where you put it down. Tilt CS (AWAY from still uncovered versamark ink) to remove the little bit of loose EP. Repeat these steps with the next color of EP. You can apply EP in a very detailed manner like this. Once all versamark has been covered with EP hit it with your heat tool.
