I don't think I did the "out of the box" quite right because I trimmed around my matting too. Regardless, this is a fun technique, and I will do it again!
I layered 5 sheets of toilet paper, wet the butterfly stamp with water and pressed hard. I let the butterfly impression dry, trimmed around it with scissors, and outlined areas of the butterfly with a glitter pen. The final matting layer was roughened up (distressed?) around the edges with a making memories tool.

You can trim around the matting--that's okay! It's just another way of doing it...there's lots of ways to get creative with this technique. I sure do love this big flower and the warm colors! I love your butterfly technique, too. I've always wanted to try paper casting this way but just never got around to it. Thanks for this great example!
