Thank you everyone. I was really happy with how they turned out. Even my hubby liked them. My girlfriend absolutely loved them! She was so touched, she cried!!
Lakepenny - I buy my tiles at Home Depot. They are at the end of the tile isle, and the package/shelf tag call them 'jeffrey court'-4" botticino tiles. There is 9 in a package - 1 sq foot. I like these ones the best of all the ones I have tried.

I love, love, love these!! They are absolutely beautiful. I think my mom and mother-in-law need a set of these! Thanks for the inspiration and your generosity in sharing your ideas.

2plus2-twins - I just use Q-tips with my pastels, and just keep applying more until I like the color. I am not the best at coloring or shading, although I try to experiment with dark and light to add texture. Hope this helps.
