I needed a quick (mail carrier will be here shortly, and it needs to go out today to arrive in time) birthday card for my teenage niece, which is mailable for 41 cents.
I used the birthday cake as my inspiration, but took a 'less than literal' approach to the design. The pink and red combination reminded me of this fun polka dot handmade paper I found on our Kansas City vacation at a really funky store called Urban Arts and Crafts (wish I lived near enough to take some of their fun classes) http://www.urbanartsandcrafts.com/
I decided to pair the polka dots with a pink floral paper that was also in the package. They were attached to mimic the layers of the cake. I added the red bow found on the cake and the closest cake stamp that I had to the inspiration cake. I punched it in a diamond shape to incorporate the diamond design and then added a few red highlights to the cake and candles with a Souffle pen.
On the inside, I added three sentiments stamped in red, pink and black, as well as a couple of punched flowers to emulate the stars. Fun doing the Saturday IC as always.

What pretty paper! There is nothing wrong with 'less than literal' -- the picture is supposed to give you inspiration, and you take your inspiration where you find it! This is a lovely card.
