I saw this challenge early this morning, had this idea, and was stuck at the office until now! What torture!
The kimono is folded using Washi paper, which is MOSTLY red, black and gold. Just ignore the other colors in the paper so they do not disqualify me for the challenge. ;-)
The Double Happiness charm is from Custer's Last Stamp, and the coin on the obi (belt) is from a LSS in FL (okay, not so local to me.) The wooden thing is a piece of a bamboo skewer.
If I did this again, I think I would stamp a subtle background on the red c/s.
Please ignore the dirt on my scanner, and TFL!

Friends are like the walls of a house. Sometimes they hold you up, sometimes you lean on them. But sometimes, it's enough to know they're just standing by.
I love your card - and the folded Kimono and the belt with the
coin and wooden skewer (very clever!) - TFS!

I used to use this template to make my kimonos: http://www.hardin.k12.ky.us/japan/orig_kimono.htm, and it still works! Over time I have played with the dimensions, though, as I wanted the collar to be longer (so you have to make it wider to start with), and I wanted it longer, too. I think the body is 3" x 6" (the origami washi paper is 6x6).
Then, I met a woman at a craft show I did last winter who makes really cool pins out of these things, and she showed me how to cheat. So now I just make the body of the kimono by following the template, and I make the sleeves separately and just tape them to the back. Is that cool or what?
Start with a piece of patterened scrap paper and play with it a while. PM me if you get stuck.
