I'm new to SCS, but have been a Stampin Up! junkie for several years thanks to my niece, an SU Sr. Manager.
I fell in love with the coasters that ibbie made and thought I'd try making some myself. Thanks for the idea, ibbie!!! Not too bad for my first attempt at tiles!
I stamped the lighthouse images in Staz On-Black. Used my heat gun to set the ink and let them sit for an hour or so. Then, I stamped the entire top of the tile with VersaMark which helped the Stampin Pastels adhere to the tile. I used the sponge daubers to spread the chalk colors where I wanted and also used a blender pen dipped in the chalks to place the red stripes on the two lighthouses. I then sprayed with a light coat of Krylon Matte finish (as I didn't want them glossy), let dry for a couple of hours and then sprayed again. Voila!

OMG! They came out great! It was funny, when they popped up on the page, I actually thought they were the ones I did and I was wondering why they had such a current post date - LOL. Way to go - I think you did a super job!

Did you find any trouble with the Versamark pad still staying sticky after spraying it? They are gorgeous. I have the same set and am making coasters myself. But I am running into problems with the stickyness of the Versamark pad on the Coaster.

I haven't had any problems after spraying the tiles. The spray covers everythng, including the versamark. I'm using a matte finish spray by Krylon with no problems whatsoever. What type of sealer are you using? If you have more questions, please feel free to email me directly at [email protected]

These are beautiful. I know there is a technique out there somewhere, but being new to this whole stamping concept, can you guide me to where you buy or what you buy to make the coasters? Are they a bathroom tile.
I only hope that my first attempt is a fraction as pretty as these are!

Hope: Thanks for the kind words!! The tiles were purchased at Home Depot. They are in the floor tile section and are called Tumbled Tiles. They come in a white box that holds nine 4" X 4" tiles and cost about $5.98 for the box. They are a matte finish type of tile (not the shiny ones). If you can't find them, just ask someone. Lowe's carries them as well. Look through the box to see if all the tiles are OK. Sometimes, one or two tiles may have a fine hairline crack and that's when I subsitute tiles from other boxes
I hope this helps. Happy Stamping!!
